By default, I believe the hard drive is case insensitive. The way I had to do this was I made a backup of all of my data and did a re-install of OSX. When you install OSX, you can use the application Disk Utility to reformat your hard drive and upon doing so, you can set the whether or not the hard drive is case insensitive or not.

Others have run into this issue and have tried installing Photoshop onto a case insensitive Mac and then copy everything over to the case sensitive drive. If you're adventurous, you can read more at http://superuser.com/questions/247920/install-adobe-cs5-on-mac-with-case-sensitive-filesystem.

How do you reformat the Hard Drive to be case insensitive? I've just came across the same problem and don't want to go formating my Mac when I'm not totally comfortable with the process of fixing the issue (I am completely ignorant to how my mac, and other technology for that matter, functions).

I would like nothing more to just use the Photoshop alternatives, but sadly, I am often a consumer of PSDs rather than a creator of them. So when I get a comp and it uses layer styles and whatnot, GIMP just doesn't work

So do something about it. Stop using their products.
For a Photoshop alternative, there's GIMP. At least it installs to case sensitive volumes.

I haven't used an adobe product in a long time and I don't plan to start any time soon.

in europe. thought i'd sleep off my frustration of cs4 still having this problem. still frustrated after my sleep. can't install the program and working on it over internet on my desktop with illustrator is very problematic. causing me time and pain, which is money. this problem should be handled by a class action lawsuit.

First of all, Adobe, this is ridiculous! Even putting other issues aside, there's a lot of user benefit to not having to reformat one's hard disk.

Maybe I'm missing something, but the message is talking about the OS volume, not the install volume, and comes up before you have a chance to choose where to install meaning you can't choose to install on a diskimage unless you somehow make it the startup disk. So, am I misunderstanding something?
